National Emblem
of the French Republic
The current Emblem of France has been a symbol of the country since 1953, when France received a request from the United Nations for a copy of the national coat of arms to be displayed alongside the coats of arms of other member states in its assembly chamber.

This did not, however, constitute an adoption of an official coat of arms by the Republic, which still does not have any legal status.
"l cannot talk French because whenever l speak... l feel that my moustache grows more than when l speak Spanish."
- Stéphane Miroux, La Science de Rêves

French (Français)
French is second only to English for the number of countries where it has official status – 32 as opposed to 45. And, with 56 members, la Francophonie is is now larger than the Commonwealth, which has 53.
French is still a working language of the UN, the EU, and dozens of international organizations including the International Red Cross committee, International Labor Organization, Amnesty International, and Doctors without Borders. Francophone countries form an important bloc in the UN, the EU, the African Union, and the Arab League.
