According to the Sagas of Icelanders, Leif Erikson established a Norse settlement at Vinland, tentatively identified with the Norse L'Anse aux Meadows on the northern tip of Newfoundland in modern-day Canada.
Leif was the son of Erik the Red, the founder of the first Norse settlement in Greenland and of Þjóðhildur (anglicized Thjodhild).
He was likely born in Iceland, and grew up in the family estate Brattahlíð in the Eastern Settlement in Greenland. Leif had two known sons: Thorgils, born to noblewoman Thorgunna in the Hebrides; and Thorkell, who succeeded him as chieftain of the Greenland settlement.

Dialogue 2
Please meet Leif Erikson was an Icelandic explorer
considered by some as the first European to land in North America (excluding Greenland), before Christopher Columbus.
You have a chance to talk to him
and ask whether he has anything to do with the Swedish
multinational provider of communication technology.
But first, let's just greet him.
The phrase "der er kaldt" means "it is cold".
Let's see how else the weather can be described
for you could keep the conversation.
Here are some examples:
It is sunny
Det er sol
[deː æːr suːl]
It is rainy
Det er regnfull
[deː æːr ræinfʉːl]
It is foggy
Det er tåkete
[deː æːr 'toːkətə]
Now, you are ready
to continue the dialogue.
Not ready? Come on, Mick!
Lief and I believe in you.
The sun is shining
Sola skinner
[sola ʃiner]

Now let's say a few more things
about the weather and say "goodbye" to the great explorer.
It is wet/humid
Det er fuktig
[deː æːr 'fuktɪ]
Dialogue 3
It is hot/warm
Det er varmt
[deː æːr ʋɑɾm]

Leif Erikson: - God kveld! Hva heter du?
You: - ..................../Hallo/!
............/My name is... e.g. Mick Jagger/.
Leif Erikson: - Hvordan går det?
Mick Jagger: - .............../It's going good/
.............../How are you doing/?
Leif Erikson: - Jeg fryser (I'm freezing).
[jæj 'fɾyːsər]
Mick Jagger: - Hvorfor (why)?
[ˈʋoɾfoɾ]
Leif Erikson: - Det er kaldt.
[deː æːr kɑlt]
Mick Jagger: - Pardon?
Well done!
Let's see what other "weather" expressions you can use to make this "exciting" dialogue more vivid, if possible.
Leif Erikson: - Er det fint vær i dag?
Mick Jagger: - Nei (no), ........./e.g. it is snowing/.
[næj]
Leif Erikson: - Ok. Vi snakkes!
Mick Jagger: - ................../e.g. Googbye/.
Dialogue 1

As you can see all these phrases
have the same construction:
det + er + adjective
where "det" = "the/that"
and "er" = "is"
Look at the conjugation forms
of the verb "være" (to be).
We're going to use it a lot in future.
Conjugarion of the verb
to be (present) = være [ˈvɛːrɐ]
I am = jeg er [æːr]
you are = du er [æːr]
s/he/it is = han/hun/det/den er [æːr]
we are = vi er [æːr]
you are = dere er [æːr]
they are = de er [æːr]
Leif Erikson: - Det er kaldt.
Mick Jagger: - Ja (yes), ................../it is rainy/.
[jɑː]
